The article “sisters in arms” by James Dao is about the US military now allowing women in combat. The role of a woman in the army was most y known as a care taker but now women are saying that they can be much more that care for wounded men on coming combat. They can handle the difficulties that come with being on the battle field. Women were prevented from being apart combat primarily because the US military feared that women would have the strength needed while in action or if women would be able to pull the trigger when the time comes. Throughout the wars that have taken  place from 2001 women have made up about 12 percent of them, these women have left their families, their babies and partners fight for their country and it would not be fear that they are not taken seriously  or seen as incapable of doing what they may want to do. The US military not allowing women in combat is like telling them take they don’t have what it take to get on the battle field and fight like man can it’s like telling them there are not good enough. Women are in charge of their own strength and know there their capabilities so if they think they can handle what comes being in combat there is no way the US military can tell them no they can’t. The women in the army has put themselves in harm’s way to help a fellow soldier and proven themselves over and over that they can indeed do what a man can and that’s why they have now decided to allow women in combat.

  1. Do you think there is more progress for women to make? Have you ever been judged or held back from something because of your gender? Is there a connection to make here? 85
